Our client in New Malden approached us to transform their Semi-detached property into a more contemporary, open, and functional home. While the existing house offered good bones, the layout felt closed-in and outdated for modern family life.
The brief was to create a brighter, more connected living space through a rear extension and full internal refurbishment. The client also wanted to improve flow throughout the home, maximising natural light and usability without compromising comfort or warmth. Integrating the new with the existing was key, both in terms of structure and aesthetic.
We designed and built a rear extension with one of our trusted architect who decided to opened up the ground floor, creating a generous open-plan layout that combined the kitchen, dining, and living spaces. Structural works included the installation of steel beams to remove load-bearing walls and allow for an uninterrupted view from the front to the rear of the property.
Inside, we reimagined the interior with a soft, timeless material palette and functional joinery tailored to the family’s lifestyle. The new layout improves circulation, brings in more natural light, and offers a greater sense of openness , without compromising on intimacy or warmth.
Our in-house design team worked closely with the client to define finishes and details, from bespoke kitchen cabinetry to lighting and layout choices, ensuring cohesion across old and new areas of the home.
This project is a great example of how thoughtful design and a carefully planned extension can completely transform the feel and function of a home. By combining structural ingenuity with interior design expertise, we delivered a home that feels larger, lighter, and more connected, both spatially and emotionally.
The result is a beautifully reimagined family home where every element works in harmony, inside and out.
